Rodanos Charilaos
LesvosCharilaos Rodanos was born in 1914 in Agiasos, Lesbos. He was an instrumentalist with knowledge of music theory and a music teacher. His first instrument was the violin, but he also played the mandolin and guitar. He was first taught the violin by his grandfather. At the age of 19 he studied under Myrogiannis in Mytilene and then self-studied to develop his playing style. He began playing music in 1930 with an ensemble featuring his father (Stratis) and uncle (Nikos Rodanos), also known as “Annes”. He played at engagements, serenades, weddings, funerals, parties at cafés, houses and clubs, festivals and dances, as well as music and dance events and theatrical performances at the Agiasos Reading Room. His repertoire included local tunes, Smyrna tunes, rembetika, “European” tunes (tango, foxtrot), and classical music (Johan Strauss).
