Lesvos

Stratis Prikes was born in 1936 in Pamfila, Lesbos. He was an amateur musician, singer and poet. As a young, he was a cantor, and began learning the bouzouki at the age of 14. He emigrated to Athens where he worked for three years at an uncle’s fish shop before working as a construction worker for a year and a half. However, after returning to Pamfila in 1956, he worked as a seaman throughout Greece. From 1963 and for seven years, he travelled abroad. His poems were inspired by his own experiences, but he also wrote poems upon request.
