Almyroudi Marianthi

Marianthi Almyroudi was born in 1928 in Mesta, Chios. She is an amateur singer. She was influenced from a young age by her father, who also sang, as well as the presence of refugees in the area, which affected the way she performed the songs. She learned everything empirically, “by ear.” Her main occupation was agricultural work (harvesting and mastic cultivation); after 1976, she worked for five years as a cleaner on a liner serving the Mesta-Rafina route. She has participated in many musical recordings, such as those made by S. Karras and D. Samiou. She sang during agricultural work, at weddings, events, parties and evening gatherings. In addition to local songs, she has also sung folk songs.
