Mavrikis Kostas

Kostas Mavrikis was born in 1930 in Agii Theodori, Samos. He first played the tsambouna, harmonica and mandolin, but was passionate about the santur. He studied with to a teacher for just six months. He played for a decade, starting in 1947, first on his own for two years and then with another musician. During his military service he played in an ensemble. In 1957, his santur broke and he stopped playing until 1979, when he decided to start again. His main occupation was construction work and farming. He is also a cantor and gives santur lessons.
